The adolescent years can be a challenging time. Besides developmental transitions such as puberty, adolescents today face challenges and pressure from their home, school and/or work environment, social media, and from themselves. Areas of concern include self-esteem, self-identity, independence, body image, relationship, etc.

To destress and keep in touch with friends, many adolescents today are spending more time online on social media, playing games and watching videos. However, this could hinder their time for studies, sleep and family connection. They might also have difficulty communicating with their parents and parents might not be able to understand their thinking and behaviour.

Left unmanaged, these challenges can cause various effects on adolescents' body and mental health, such as headaches, mood swings, feelings of burnt out or guilt, procrastination, anxiety, depression or suicidal behaviour.
